NLA’s Undefeated Middle School Sports Teams

The Undefeated 6th Grade Volleyball Girls are Choosing Joy, Win or Lose

The sixth-grade volleyball green team went undefeated their entire season and a big component to success was their attitude and mindset.

This volleyball season, although short, was one of great success for the girls on the sixth-grade green team. Their season started at the beginning of September and the championship game took place on Sunday Oct. 27.

Head coach Rachel Tateosian said, “I had the privilege of coaching seven out of the eight of these girls last year. So, coming into a new season with basically the same team, having already established relationships, and then the incredible addition of Madeline Hanson, it’s been really cool to see the girls work so hard and to see them fight for it.” She continued by saying, “They’ve been fighting for it all season and they’ve been doing really good. It makes me so proud.”

The girls won all of their regular season games, won four playoff games, and also won the sixth-grade championship game. They ended the season with a record of 13-0.

“We’ve talked a lot about the word joy, especially in our last few games,” Tateosian said. “I think it’s really easy to carry a lot of pressure and expectation, especially in middle school, but helping them establish a team mindset like hey we’re going to be joyful in all circumstances.”

Tateosian said there were games where the girls chose to be joyful, and it was evident in the way they played.

If you have a negative attitude, it’s going to influence everyone around you. If you have a positive attitude, that’s going to spread even wider.

In one of their games, the girls all wrote the word “JOY” on their wrists as a reminder of what they were choosing for the game: joyfulness and encouragement for the whole team.

Aynsley Kate, a member of the team, said, “It’s amazing! I’m so proud of my team. We have learned how to be joyful and glorify God.”

The team ended their season undefeated with a win on Oct. 27 against St. Patrick Hudson.

5th Grade Boys’ Soccer Brings Home CAA Championship

The New Life Academy 5th Grade boys’ soccer team capped off a perfect season over the weekend, bringing home the Catholic Athletic Association (CAA) championship. The Eagles went 6-0 during the regular season, earning an automatic trip to the championship where they defeated St. Odilia 2-0.

The team is coached by Matt Nylin, Brent Robinson, and Adam Karli. Head Coach, Matt Nylin, shared this about his team, “This group of fifth-grade boys was so much fun to coach! Not only do they have natural talent and love for the sport, but you can see the bond that they have for each other! You can’t teach chemistry and these kids have it! I am so proud of all the things they accomplished this year. The future of NLA is BRIGHT!”
