New Life Academy students scoop up multiple awards at the Regional and State Science Fairs

Every year, New Life Academy students in grades 6-12 work on 15% Innovation Portfolio (15% IP) projects, which are long-term, student-driven projects. Each year students will compete at the 2019 Regional Science Fair. A select number of students advance to the MN State Science Fair.

Below are a list of the awards given to NLA students

Nancy Wang (Junior) – Disaster Resistant House

  • Winner of 3M Film/Material division and was invited to display project at 3M and meet 3M scientists and engineers
  • Winner of 3M Young Inventors Recognition Award
  • Winner of NOAA’s Taking the Pulse of the Planet’s Award
  • Blue Ribbon (First place project) at the Regional Science Fair
  • Excellence in Environmental Health Science Award – MN State Science Fair

Lauren Meyer (Junior) – Reclaiming Satellites

  • Winner of US Air Force Engineering Achievement Award
  • Winner of Yale Science and Engineering Outstanding Award
  • Blue Ribbon (First place project) at the Regional Science Fair

Alex Li (Senior) – ResPay QR Recognition App

  • Blue Ribbon (First place project) at the Regional Science Fair
  • US Air Force Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Engineering Science Fair Project at the MN State Science Fair

Mike Wang (Senior) – Yonterpreneur, LLC

  • Red Ribbon (Second place project) at the Regional Science Fair

Nickolas Zander (Freshman) – The Critter Disaster

  • Blue Ribbon (First place project) at the Regional Science Fair
  • MN Academy of Science Bronze Metal at the MN State Science Fair
