As the HR Leader in a department of one (1), the incumbent will perform Human Resources related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: benefits, employee relations, training, employment/hiring, and employment equity programs.

New Life Academy, a non-profit Christian school, has an amazing opportunity for an experienced Human Resources Leader.  New Life Church was formed in 1977 and shortly after New Life Academy (NLA) was born and today has become a Christian school enrolling more than 700 students of diverse backgrounds in grades preschool through twelve.   NLA offers its families a complete educational experience as the largest non-denominational Christian School in the east metro area.  All grades are located on one campus in Woodbury, MN a suburb of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

As the HR Leader in a department of one (1), the incumbent will perform Human Resources related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: benefits, employee relations, training, employment/hiring, and employment equity programs.

 

Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Proposes, publishes and administers all personnel policies, handbook updates and reviews and responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs; partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
  • Create an experience for each and every individual (staff and students) that inspires passion in their work, their team and the brand; engaging in NLAs success, putting discretionary effort toward creating a positive experience for everyone (employee, student, guest).
  • Provides compensation support by helping to create and maintain current job descriptions; performance development plans and participate in the annual performance/merit review process.
  • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, vacation, sick leave and employee leaves of absence; evaluate employee benefits offerings including employee costs; administer insurance renewals with carriers; reconciles monthly invoices and manages COBRA processes.
  • Conducts recruitment effort for exempt and nonexempt personnel, students, and temporary employees; places advertisements; conducts new-employee orientation; help develop and monitor effective onboarding processes to foster positive attitude toward company.
  • Handles employee relations counseling and exit interviews.
  • Participates in staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars. Maintains company organization charts and employee directory.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Administration, or a related field is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-PC or SHRM-SPC highly desired
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in all phases of human resource administration.
  • Must be familiar with current laws and regulations regarding employers’ and employees’ rights and obligations.
  • Must have the ability to make recommendation to effective resolve problems or issues, by using judgement that is in consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and be guest-oriented and service-minded
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of payroll systems, ADP Workforce Now preferred
