Handwriting without Tears

Handwriting without Tears® Curriculum in Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten

by Christine DeBoer, Early Education Director

Handwriting without Tears® was implemented as a new curriculum in our Preschool and PreK classes this year.  This curriculum allows  our students to be engaged in learning crucial Pre-writing skills and helping to develop their fine motor skills at an early age. Handwriting without Tears meets the child’s individual learning styles and provides them with an interactive opportunity to understand and learn how letters are formed.  Children learn how to build letters by using creative manipulatives such as roll a dough, stamp and see screens, and wooden letter pieces.  One of their favorite activities is building their own “Mat Man.”

The Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum draws from years of innovation and research to provide developmentally appropriate, multisensory strategies for early writing. The program follows research of how children learn best and includes materials that address all styles of learning.
