My name is Bruce Locklear, and I am honored to serve as your Interim Head of School for this year! My wife, Dawn and I live in Edina. We have two adult daughters, Brittany who lives in Woodbury with her husband and 15-month-old daughter, and Bethany who resides in Aberdeen, SD. Dawn currently teaches math at Crown College and I have been in educational leadership roles for the past 25 years. We love working with students!
New Life Academy was introduced to me by a dear friend, and we fell in love with what we saw. The excellence of the school, the friendly and professional staff and faculty, excellent students, and a Christian approach to educating. As a result, we began discussions around the possibility of serving at New Life in the interim. Here we are several months later, excited to see the journey God has planned for our school.
Interim. What exactly does this mean for our school? Perhaps it is easier to describe what it doesn’t mean. It does not mean being idle in the waiting. God has called me to this school for this very time and this is what I want you to know:
- First, we will continue to advance the vision and mission of our school. We want every student to not only know Jesus but to understand that Jesus loves them unconditionally. We want them to develop a strong personal relationship with Him and have the desire to share the love of Jesus with others.
- Second, we will keep improving. You trust us with your most precious gift, your child. It is our goal to provide the best Christian education and prepare your child for whatever path they select following high school; whether it is college, the military, or a job.
Why interim as opposed to a long-term commitment? I currently serve a ministry called TreeHouse. I am committed to helping this ministry as they serve teens who need hope and love. My role with TreeHouse is to help them build and maintain relationships with schools and conduct training sessions with staff on the needs of students and schools. If God puts it on our hearts, NLA and my family, then we will follow God’s plan. For now, this is what we (Dawn and I) believe God has in store for our family.
During this time, we are committed to serving NLA with all the love and faith we have. God has a plan and when we listen and follow His plan, great things happen. We are so excited to see what God has in store and feel honored to be a part of New Life Academy.
Please feel free to drop by and say hello! We are in the process of settling into the office but would welcome company at any time!
