Development Manager

The Development Manager enthusiastically leads the Development Team responsible for annual giving, fundraising event planning, and database management. The Development Manager strategically partners with the marketing and finance departments to plan and execute successful development strategies focused on advancing the mission and vision of New Life Academy.

The Development Manager is responsible for driving the creation and implementation of a comprehensive, innovative annual development plan to ensure that individuals, corporations and foundations are solicited annually and in multi-faceted ways. The manager will build a thriving culture of philanthropy, oversee and grow an established donor portfolio and build positive, energizing relationships with individuals interested in the mission and advancement of the academy.


Strategy and Management

  • Supports the creation of a comprehensive strategic annual plan for the department, including but not limited to, fundraising events, annual giving, individual giving, and major donor solicitation
  • Advances the strategic development vision and creates and implements tactics to support it
  • Collaborates with the Marketing Director to devise a comprehensive communication plan with key media approaches and impactful messaging that drives the strategy
  • Stays knowledgeable of market, new technologies, trends, and practices to ensure the long-term sustainability of all donors
  • Develops strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors interested in making planned gifts
  • Defines expectations and desired outcomes for the Development Team and creates a motivating, high-performance team culture
  • Analyzes gift reports and produces historical trends in data that inform future strategy
  • Participates in the organizational budgeting process to ensure adequate resources are dedicated to development projects

Fundraising Events

  • Hosts fundraising events in partnership with the Event Manager, ensuring a dedicated, visible presence in preparation for and throughout the event
  • Provides resource support needed for successful annual (Golf tournament and auction) and other event planning
  • Achieves the individual and major fundraising targets on an annual basis, moving potential donors through a meaningful cycle of giving

Donor Relations

  • Maintains a portfolio of individuals with giving histories of $500 and above
  • Oversees donor data and tracking systems and utilizes data to support team’s giving goals
  • Ensures each member of the NLA Board of Directors and professional advisory boards are solicited annually with a goal of 100% participation.
  • Builds and oversees an annual stewardship plan
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with key stakeholders of the academy, to include current parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, alumni student, local businesses and organizations, and foundations related to academic and Christian schools
  • Serves as a representative for the academy’s fundraising foundation (New Life Academy Educational Foundation, Inc. – NLAEFI)


  • Supports volunteer solicitors as they identify, cultivate and solicit prospects
  • Collaborates with the Communications Director to produce written and digital fundraising materials, including quarterly mailed appeals
  • Actively supports donor cultivation activities, such as Give to the Max, stewardship events, and other development-related activities.
  • Processes and proactively seeks bequests


  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of fundraising experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading successful teams
  • Demonstrated success in donor acquisition and cultivation resulting in new and increased levels of giving
  • Experience leading volunteer committees
  • School experience a plus
  • Knowledge of planned giving techniques, prospect tracking and donor databases

  • Regular attendee and supporter of a church whose fundamental beliefs are evangelical in nature
