Summer Programs

We have a blast engaging students during the summer

Our Summer Program offers daily Summer Blast programming, weekly camps that range from athletic, art, STEAM activities and Academic Courses for Credit. Flexible BLAST schedules allow you to register for a few days or the entire summer based on your own travel schedule. You no longer have to hear “I’m bored” this summer! There is something for everyone!

DESCRIPTION

Memorable summertime fun awaits you child as he or she makes new friends and explores a new theme each week. Children will enjoy age-appropriate activities, arts and crafts, gym time and fun in the sun! Children age 4 through those entering Kindergarten will go on field trips and receive T-shirts. Please provide a bag lunch for your child each day. Snacks will be provided. Deadline for registration for BLAST programs is first come, first serve.

Summer is a time for students to have FUN in a safe and exciting environment. Join the NLA summer BLAST program for the time of your life. The day may consists of gym time, games, outdoor recess, crafts, field trips and more.

Camp Title:  Select Therapy’s Bigger, Faster, Stronger Camp

Date:  Every Tuesday and Friday, starting June 5 and ending August 3, no sessions July 3 or July 6.  (16 sessions)

Description:  This 8 week, 16 session program will improve sport performance by increasing the athlete’s speed, agility, and strength while also reducing the risk of future injury. The program will be led by Select Therapy’s team of Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers.  Participants will receive a t-shirt.  The rate includes all 16 sessions.  No refund is given for missed sessions.

 

Camp Title:  NLA Strength and Conditioning Program

Description:  This two week strength and conditioning program is offered June 4-8 (week 1) and June 11-15 (week 2), Monday-Thursdays with Fridays as a shorter day – optional for make-up day or on your own training (the weight room will be supervised). The program will include strength training, agility and speed training, plyometrics, and conditioning.  T-shirt included.

Description:  This camp is designed for players of all skill levels and will focus on individual offensive and defensive fundamentals. In addition, core team basketball principles will be taught throughout the camp by integrating game-like situations. The goal is to create an exciting basketball camp environment to promote skill development and improvement.

Description:  The New Life Eagles soccer camp is for both boys and girls. The camp runs for 5 days, 3 hours each day. The objectives are to develop soccer skills, while having fun. The New Life Academy Boys and Girls Soccer coach and players will staff the camp. The skills include juggling, dribbling, shooting, controlling, and passing. The activities for each day will include individual drills, lead-up games and small-sided games.  Each participant will receive a camp shirt.  Participants should bring a ball, tennis shoes or soccer cleats, shin guards, water bottle and a snack.

Description:  Flag Football is the perfect introduction to “America’s Game.” Campers learn skills on both sides of the football including the core components of passing, catching, and defense – all presented in a fun and positive environment. The week ends with the Skyhawks Super Bowl, giving participants a chance to showcase their skills on the gridiron! Description:  All aspects of volleyball are taught through drills and exercises that focus on passing, setting, hitting, and serving. This co-ed program is designed for the beginning and intermediate player. Description:  Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes through proper technique and refining the essential skills of the game. This camp will focus on the fundamentals of form, chipping, putting, driving and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system to its curriculum. SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs-all equipment is provided. We keep the instructor-to-camper ratio for this program very low, resulting in limited availability. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes, and sunscreen. All participants receive a t-shirt and a merit award.

Description:  Chess Wizards is a premier chess education company providing fun, informative and challenging chess lessons to students. The chess lessons are based around the original, fun, and high-energy Chess Wizards curriculum. Chess Wizards teaches children many important life concepts, such as learning the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship. Students will be divided into groups according to their chess experience. At the end of this session, each student will have had the chance to participate in a mini-chess tournament. Regardless of a child’s ability, Chess Wizards makes chess fun for all! Students will receive a trophy, Chess Wizards t-shirt, and a folder of puzzles. Chess Wizards will provide lunch and snack each day of the camp. A lunch menu will be sent out a week prior to each camp. Students are welcome to bring their own lunch and snack.

Description:  We are very excited to announce that two of our most popular vendors have combined efforts this summer to create a fun, full day camp experience.

Students will build a variety of theme-based, fun-filled motorized models utilizing LEGO® Bricks and Technic® elements with themes such as space exploration, cranium contraptions, amazing animals, interesting inventions, construction, transportation, energy is everywhere, exploring the everglades, natural science and factory fun. All activities are designed to enhance a child’s self-esteem while triggering their imagination and building their self-confidence.

After a supervised lunch, in the afternoon, you will get active with Skyhawks.  This multi-sport camp offers a wide variety of sports and activities to explore in a fun and interactive setting.  We will focus on building skills in soccer and flag football; but will also include camp games like Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee and Kickball.

Description:   Join New Life Academy’s Elementary Art Teacher Lara Johnson in this creative 3-day morning art camp! Students will be provided with a two-story wooden dollhouse and supplies to design and decorate in their own style. We’ll use printmaking as we design wallpaper, paint for the remaining walls and exteriors, and use all sorts of fun art materials to add details to each room. Cost of materials is included in the camp fee. The camp will be offered two times – June 5-7 and June 12-14.

Description:  Kids LOVE sparkles.  They just can’t get enough of them!  In this camp, the kids will go sparkle crazy!  They’ll create multiple projects all covered with sparkles galore!  They’ll “tie-dye,” play with clay, create sun catchers and more as they work with different types of clay, paint and other spectacularly sparkly art supplies.  Please send a nut free snack and drink with your child each day.

Description:  The Lord is our good shepherd and we are his sheep.  Let’s follow Him! Description:  Don’t just play Minecraft!  Turn Minecraft from a game into a visual learning tool!  This class will reinforce problem solving skills and spatial cognition through learning to create in-game Dungeons and Treasure Map.  Students, working in pairs, will learn basic game design skills while they collaborate to build Adventure maps, as well as some other advances features in Minecraft.  This class has a strong emphasis on creativity, exploration, and cooperative learning experiences.  Please bring a drink and snack daily.

Description:  All New Game Tutorial!  Image, create, and share by creating an interactive 2D video game using your FAVORITE characters.  We scoured the Scratch website and assembled a collection of the most popular game sprites.  Choose characters from Undertale, Pokémon, Nintendo, Minecraft and even classic characters like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Sonic, and Mario!  The first classes we will learn to use scratch, and on the final session, students will be walked through creating a working arcade-style game, picking which main character to use.  Bring a USB drive to save your games on the last day, or they can be emailed to parents.

Description:  Use forensic science to help solve Mad Science mysteries.  Learn about collecting evidence, blood typing, pH, and fingerprints as you help solve a crime.  Extract the DNA from wheat germ and make a model cell.  Create a mystery scene for fellow campers to analyze and solve.

Description:  The purpose of this American Red Cross Babysitter course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants.  This training will help participants to develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave, and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. There are no prerequisites required to take the course. Included in the price of the course is a training kit. The contents of the kit include:

  • Babysitter’s Training Handbook- This full color handbook is filled with great information and resources to use in class and on the job.
  • Babysitter’s Training Emergency Reference Guide- This easy-to-carry, compact booklet provides step-by-step instructions to handle common emergencies such as bee stings and asthma attacks.
  • Babysitter’s Training CD-ROM- This new tool provides participants with the tools they will need to run their babysitting business, including a babysitting organizer; a printable activity booklet with games, crafts, songs and recipes; a resume template and more

Each participant will receive an American Red Cross Babysitter Course Completion Certificate if they attend all sessions and successfully complete the course activities. Please bring a bag lunch to both days of the class.

Lunch Bunch

NEW!  A supervised lunch time will be offered from 12:00-1:00 for any back-to-back camps that your child is signed up for during any given week during summer programming.  Please send a lunch and drink with your camper each day, and a summer staff member will monitor your student while he or she enjoys a break in between camp sessions and hangs out with other Lunch Bunch campers.

Cost:  $5 per day, to be billed separately by the business office
