As the Athletic Director, you will oversee all aspects of the athletic programs that are sponsored by the school. This includes the hiring of coaches, ordering equipment for teams, promoting events, matches, and meets. The Director must be skilled in budgeting and allocating funds, and facilitating operations. The Athletic Director may also participate in fundraising for the teams and to providing guidance to the students in the sports program. In addition to scheduling games and events, the Athletic Director will collaborate with the coaching staff on scheduling game days and practices throughout the sports season, ensuring no scheduling conflict occurs between different teams for use of shared equipment like weight rooms and athletic trainers’ attention.

New Life Academy, a non-profit Christian school, has an amazing opportunity for an experienced Athletic Director.  New Life Church was formed in 1977 and shortly after New Life Academy (NLA) was born and today has become a Christian school enrolling more than 700 students of diverse backgrounds in grades preschool through twelve.   NLA offers its families a complete educational experience as the largest non-denominational Christian School in the east metro area.  All grades are located on one campus in Woodbury, MN a suburb of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

The Athletic Director may also participate in fundraising for the teams and to providing guidance to the students in the sports program. In addition to scheduling games and events, the Athletic Director will collaborate with the coaching staff on scheduling game days and practices throughout the sports season, ensuring no scheduling conflict occurs between different teams for use of shared equipment like weight rooms and athletic trainers’ attention.

 

Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Determine scholastic eligibility of all students for athletic teams as designated in the Student Handbook and MSHSL Handbook; file rosters with the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) to verify athlete’s eligibility and share rosters with coaches.
  2. Represent school in Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and Minnesota Christian Athletic Association (MCAA), attending meetings and staying updated on rule changes and assist in coordinating tournament activities in the MCAA.
  3. Select, interview, hire, train, and evaluate all athletic coaches, and assist all head coaches in developing their coaching skills.
  4. Assist in the administration of school and league/association policies and procedures which also includes promoting NLA athletics at various school functions (e.g. Parent & Player Meetings).
  5. Coordinates the athletic program budget with Director of Finance and help maintain and control costs as it relates to salaries, equipment, supplies and uniforms
  6. Develop game schedules; arrange appropriate field and gym practice times and schedule/ supervise site managers for home athletic contests and oversee programs for home events.
  7. Communicate to facility maintenance department head the need for repair of athletic fields, gymnasiums, and locker rooms and inform facility maintenance staff of necessary set up for home athletic events.
  8. Assist school guidance counselor and parents in the college athletic recruitment process and promote sportsmanship throughout the athletic program.
  9. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree (M.A.) preferred.  Will consider an equivalentcombination of education and experience.
  • Minnesota State Teaching License preferred.
  • Minnesota Administrators License preferred.
  • Experience in athletic administration and managing the operational side of an athletic program including budget processes.
  • Successful track record of leading in a collaborative environment and hiring and developing coaches within an organization.
  • Head Varsity Coaching experience and/or collegiate coaching experience preferred; teaching experience preferred.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong communicator, both verbal and written, with staff, parents, and students.
  • Ability to adapt and problem-solve and represent all students and programs fairly and equitably and perform conflict resolution as needed.
  • Effective leadership skills to train and mentor coaches.
